Sanitarian / Environmental Health Inspector

The Uncas Health District is recruiting a Sanitarian/Environmental Health Inspector to support our environmental health program. This is a working field professional in environmental health.

Required Qualifications (Minimum) – Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, Biology or a closely related field, and two years of increasingly responsible practical environmental health inspection and enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Applicants must be a self-motivated, organized individual with the ability to work independently and is a strong team member. A general knowledge of computers is necessary. The individual must possess the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other staff members, local officials and the public.

Special Requirements – State of Connecticut certification in food service inspections, Subsurface Sewage Disposal Phase I and II and certification as a lead inspector/risk assessor are preferred. The preferred candidate shall work towards and obtain the Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS/RS) designation within a mutually agreed upon time frame.

Salary range:  $45,500 - $72,800

The position is a full time (35 hours/week) job which is non-supervisory and non-exempt. The position includes a comprehensive benefit package. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Community Health Navigator

The Uncas Health District has an immediate opening for a part-time Community Health Navigator to support the Connecticut Early Detection and Prevention Program (CEDPP) and the Connecticut Well Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN) Program. CEDPP is a comprehensive screening program and the WISEWOMAN Program provides heart disease screening throughout Connecticut for medically underserved women.

The primary job duties include in-reach/outreach activities, providing screening services, public/client and professional education, and quality assurance and data collection.

The candidate must possess a high school diploma and a driver’s license in the State of Connecticut.

The position is a part-time, grant funded, contracted position for 21 hours per week.
