Sanitarian / Environmental Health Inspector

The Uncas Health District is currently recruiting for a Sanitarian/Environmental Health Inspector to support our environmental health program. This is a working field professional in environmental health.
Required Qualifications (Minimum) – Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Biology, or a closely related field, and two years of increasingly responsible practical environmental health inspection and enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Applicant must be a self-motivated, organized individual with the ability to work independently and is a strong team member. A general knowledge of computers is necessary. The individual must possess the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other staff members, local officials, and the public.
Special Requirements – State of Connecticut certification in food service inspections, Subsurface Sewage Disposal Phase I and II, and certification as a lead inspector/risk assessor are preferred. The preferred candidate shall work towards and obtain the Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS/RS) designation within a mutually agreed upon time frame.

The position is a full-time (35 hours/week) job that is non-supervisory and non-exempt. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Job Opening for a Public Health Nurse

The Uncas Health District has an immediate opening for a full-time Public Health Nurse to perform mandated local public health functions and assist with case investigations, vaccinations, and other public health prevention-related duties. The Public Health Nurse position will play a key role in preventing the spread of illness throughout the Uncas Health District’s eleven municipalities.
The primary job duties include managing community vaccinations, advising individuals and agencies on guidelines and requirements to minimize the spread of disease, and case management activities.
The candidate must possess a current State of Connecticut License as a Registered Nurse and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a program approved by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and at least four years of experience in Public Health nursing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
The position is a full-time, grant-funded, contracted position for 35 hours per week.
