Food Awareness and Safety Training (FAST) Class
The FAST course was developed to teach proper food handling techniques. The course targets volunteers and non-profit sponsored events that are held within the Uncas Health District.
The 2-hour class teaches the importance of food safety in preventing foodborne illnesses.
The cost of this class is $25.00 per person (non-refundable).
Students are provided with knowledge of major diseases such as E.coli and Salmonella and the importance of personal hygiene, hand washing, and proper temperature control during food preparation. Also taught are appropriate methods for receiving, storing, preparing and cooking food items. Finally, students gain knowledge about effective methods of cleaning and sanitizing equipment.
Agencies applying for temporary event permits in the future will Not be exempted from completing an application but The fee and inspection will be waived if the Applicant can document a FAST Class or Qualified Food Operator (QFO) trained individual as the person attending and responsible FOR the event.
