The Uncas Health District permits and annually inspects public swimming pools in the District. A public pool is any pool other than those at a single-family owner occupied residence. All pools that are open for public use must comply with Section 19-13-B33b of the Connecticut Public Health Code. New Pool and Spa Safety Requirements are now in effect. All public pools must comply with requirements set forth in the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act. District Sanitarians conduct a comprehensive pool inspection to ensure that the pool is equipped with all the necessary safety equipment, including:
Any deficiencies in pool structure or water quality are discussed with the pool operator and addressed in a timely manner. In the event that unsafe or unsanitary conditions pose a public health risk, the District Sanitarian takes immediate steps to close the pool until the pool is brought up to code. Helpful Resources
